The history of Galbani began in 1882, when Egidio Galbani determined to produce cheeses capable of rivalling French cheeses, the standard of excellence. Robiola Galbani, the first cheese produced, met with immediate success among consumers of the period. Galbani quickly became a household name in Italy, and its products went on to conquer other European markets. In 1906, Bel Paese cheese acquired an international reputation. During the first half of the 20th century, Galbani continued its expansion, in spite of the two World Wars. Then, in the 1950s, the company took full advantage of the post-war economic boom. It then had 5,000 employees producing cheeses sold in 52 countries. The company's innovation continued with the launch in 1957 of Santa Lucia mozzarella, and the first television commercials. Galbani will continue to conquer new markets thanks to its strong Italian identity, its experience and its international reputation In 2006, Galbani joined the Lactalis group.
