On 19 October 1933, André Besnier left his coopering business and set up a dairy and cheese-making factory in Laval. On the first day he collected 34 litres of milk, which became 17 "Le petit Lavallois" camemberts. The factory's production increased during the following decades. The range of products grew, and the products acquired an excellent reputation. They won many medals and certificates in different competitions and festivals. In 1968, a number of these successful products were marketed under the same brand name: the Président brand was launched. It went on to become the flagship brand of the group with Président® camembert as its leading product. The Président range expanded very quickly. Beginning in 1979, its camembert, butter, cream and then milk products were launched on the international market. They were followed by other successful products, such as emmental in 1996, cheese spreads in 1997, goat's milk cheese in 2001, country-style camembert in 2003 and country-style butter and cooking butter in 2007.
