Background

 


1977 : André Besnier launched its products on the international market and set up the Besnier Export administrative department.
 
1980 : The group became the leading European dairy company with its principal export destinations in Africa, Asia, the French Overseas Departments & Territories, the Middle East and the Balkans.
 
1986 : Besnier Export became Besnier International.
 
1997 : Setting up of a franchise in Egypt.
 
1999 : Besnier International became Lactalis International.
Setting up of a franchise in Tunisia.
 
2004 : Opening of a sales office in Guadeloupe: Lactalis Caraïbes.
Opening of a sales office in Egypt: Lactalis Middle East.
Opening of a factory for cheese spread portions in Egypt.
 
2005 : Opening of a sales office in Japan: Lactalis Japan.
Acquisition of UFIC (United Food Industries Corporation) in Saudi Arabia, specialising in the production of cheese spreads in blocks and slices.
 
2006 : Takeover of Galbani, cheese market leader in Italy and number one producer of Italian-style cheese in Europe. Lactalis becomes the world's n°2 cheese producer. The Lactalis Group also takes over Celia, excluding their agricultural supplies business.
 
Celia is specialised in the nutrition sector and has developed, amongst others, the brands Chaussée aux moines (cheese) Le Marin (butter), Celia and Picot (infant nutrition).
 
2008 : Strengthening of the infant nutrition business with Milupa-Nutricia France and the clinical nutrition business with Beaubour.
 
2009 : Establishment of a sales branch in Shanghai : Lactalis China.
